ABOUT
Fractal Art is derived from standard geometry calculations that create a never-ending repeated pattern. these patterns can be rough or fragmented, geometric in shapeand can be split into parts and sometimes represented at a reduced size copy of the whole pattern. this geometric structure is an artistic endeavor and mathematical pursuit. although created on a computer it is not computerized art. Instead, fractal art is an expressive, creative two-dimensional visual art and is in many respects, similar to photography.
I have been exploring technological images ever since I laid my hand of the first Radio Shack "Trash 80 desktop computer". I became fascinated with computer languages and was the first one on my block to climb aboard the Internet, which at the time was a rudimentary, at best, service for research. I spent hours researching my career field of educational television on a blue screen with white text.
It did not take me long to realize that if I could stream my video television classes onto a computer I would have a very viable vehicle for learning. It was an exciting time and I was thrilled to be "a geek". Constantly trying to figure out how to best use this technology in an educationalsetting. Little did I know I was sitting on the wave of the future.
My career in educational television allowed me to use my creativity with cameras (video and still) computer graphics, and both alalog and digital editing.
Nay years ago, my brother introduced me to a piece of fractal generating software. I fell in love with the visuals I was able to create and began putting the images oncanvas. Striking as they were, they just weren't good enough for me. I had to find a way to show off the vibrant colors and patterns.
This eventually led me to aluminum and a process called dye sublimination. The process is a method of applying an image to specially coated metals and using sublimation ink, heat and pressure. Like dry ice, the sublimation ink is unique in its ability to convert from a solid to a gas without going through a liquid stage. The conversion is initiated by heat and controlled with pressure and time.
Everyone sees something different in these highly abstract fractal images. Everyone has a favorite. I certainly have my share of favorites. As a fractatl artist I enjoy and true fascination with the ability to create images that are both somewhat exotic and yet pleasingto the eye.
